The Wayne Avenue home has always attracted the press. In a June 11,
1961 piece titled “House Divided,” the architecture critic for The Los Angeles
Times praised the home for its striking good looks and its ability to
gracefully divide the space between the sophisticated adults and the playful
children.
Nearly half a century later, family lifestyles definitely have shifted, and
the home’s good looks weren’t looking so good. The house changed hands,
and the new owners hired Karen and Guy Vidal to tackle the much-needed
renovation. “When we first approached it, it was very neglected,” says
Karen Vidal. “But the new owners really had a vision for the house to restore
it and update it, so everything we were looking was a nice blend of
vintage elements, reproduction elements, and period pieces.”
